How to prepare for a remote interview.

Remote interviews have become the norm, even in situations where the job itself is on-site or hybrid. Many employers and hiring managers prefer to conduct first interviews virtually to save time and hassle.

It’s more important than ever to know how to ace a remote interview. We’ve prepared some practical tactics to give you the best odds and help you land your dream remote job.

  1. Test your equipment: Make sure your computer, internet connection, and any necessary software are working properly before the interview.

  2. Find a quiet and well-lit location: Make sure you will be in a quiet, private location with good lighting and minimal distractions during the interview.

  3. Dress professionally: Even though the interview is remote, dress as if you were going to an in-person interview.

  4. Have a backup plan: Make sure you have a backup plan in case of technical difficulties, such as a phone number to call or a secondary video conferencing platform.

  5. Research the company: Review the company's website, social media, and recent news articles to learn more about their products, services, and culture.

  6. Prepare answers to common interview questions: Think about how you will answer common interview questions, such as "Why do you want to work for this company?" or "What are your greatest strengths?"

  7. Have your CV and portfolio ready: Have electronic copies of your resume, cover letter, and portfolio ready to share during the interview.

  8. Be on time: Join the meeting few minutes prior to scheduled time, it will give you chance to check your sound and video settings, and make sure you are on time.
