Back in January, we asked: What will define tech hiring in 2025?

Incase you missed it, you can find the original post here – The results are in | your 2025 tech talent predictions! – the rec hub

Now that we’re into Q2, it’s time to check in. Are the predictions holding up? Are employers keeping pace with candidate expectations? And is AI really changing how we hire?

Here’s what we’re seeing from the frontlines of embedded hiring.

Prediction #1: AI would transform recruitment.

Reality: Confirmed, and accelerating.
AI is pretty much powering process. From predictive sourcing tools to automated outreach and candidate assessments, AI is becoming the backbone of efficient hiring. Our partners are using it to shorten time-to-hire, increase pipeline quality, and reduce bias, but it’s also forcing a rethink of recruiter skill sets.

"AI is enabling leaner, smarter hiring teams. But the tools are only as good as the strategy behind them.”
Rex Rusling, Director of New Partnerships

Prediction #2: Candidates would demand more flexibility, purpose, and values alignment.

Reality: It’s non-negotiable.
We’re seeing flexibility shift from a perk to a baseline expectation. In fact, 94% of candidates in our networks are prioritising remote or hybrid roles, and company values are now playing a decisive role in offer acceptance. For businesses not actively promoting purpose, culture and career development, it’s proving a costly miss.

Prediction #3: The biggest challenge would be securing top talent.

Reality: Even harder than expected.
Competition for talent with skills in AI, cybersecurity, and data is fiercer than ever. But the real kicker? Retaining them. Upskilling and internal mobility are being called out more frequently by our clients as mission-critical — especially when headcount growth is restricted.

"Companies that aren’t investing in internal mobility will find themselves constantly refilling the same roles.”
Bill Brewer, Talent Strategy Director

Prediction #4: Crypto compensation would rise.

Reality: Early-stage, but growing curiosity.
We’re seeing more discussion than adoption so far — especially in fintech and blockchain firms. While only 47% predicted interest in crypto salaries, this remains niche for now, with legal and compliance hurdles to overcome.

So what’s next?

Based on what we’re seeing in live projects across EMEA, here’s what’s likely to define the second half of 2025:

Hiring slowdowns are prompting smarter workforce planning. We’re supporting clients with more strategic, longer-term TA roadmaps — not just role-filling.

Skills-first hiring is gaining traction. CVs are taking a back seat to hands-on capability, especially in product and engineering.

Companies want fewer vendors, more partnership. That’s why embedded hiring is growing, it brings pace, consistency and brand alignment that traditional agencies can’t match.
